This blog has been set up by Robert Byrne to record the preparations and details of an Atlantic ocean rowing challenge that is taking place in January 2011. I am a member of the 6 man crew of the 'Sara G' that will be attempting to cross the mid-Atlantic route in as fast a time as possible with the ultimate objective of breaking the world record. The current record stands at 33 days. The route will take us from Tarfaya in Morocco to Port St Charles in Barbados.
There are now less than 3 weeks to go until the flight to Morrocco. After a recent last minute scramble to find a strong replacement for one of the crew members that withdrew from the expedition, we are now back to a crew of 6. All going well, we will all be in Agadir by December 29th for final preparations before departure from Tarfaya.
This weekend I am attending a 2 day course in basic navigation skills. Essential for task that lies ahead.
